The goals of the IGVF consortium are to transform our understanding of how genomic variation impacts genomic function and leads to phenotypes in health and disease, and to share products from the Consortium. The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the use of IGVF data and publishing of results by the external research community.
External users may freely download, analyze and publish results using any Impact of Genomic Variation on Function (IGVF) resources without restrictions. This applies to data, analyses, software and protocols, and includes no grace period for IGVF Consortium members, either as individual members or as part of the Consortium. We would like to point out that access to some of the data generated by IGVF members is controlled and may require appropriate authorization. Researchers using unpublished IGVF resources are encouraged to contact the relevant labs to discuss possible coordinated publications; however, this is optional. The Consortium will continue to publish the results of its own analysis efforts in independent publications.
We request that researchers who use IGVF resources (published or unpublished) in publications and presentations cite the IGVF Consortium. First, this could enhance the reproducibility of science by indicating the exact resource (including version) used. Second, following standard scientific practice, this acknowledges the contribution of those who produced the resource. We request that IGVF be cited in all of the following ways:
